MY RESPERATE SUDDENLY STARTED AT CONSISTENTLY LOWER BPM'S. THINKING IT WAS DEFECTIVE, I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY SUGGESTED NEW BATTERIES OR DOING SESSIONS IN THE MORNING RATHER THAN EVENING. NEITHER OF THESE HAS HELPED AND THE UNIT IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. AM I OUT OF LUCK? HELP!

Q: I have been treated for high BP for over 15 years on a combination of alpha and beta blockers lisinopril and furosemide. I have developed neuropathy and am becoming glucose intolerant. I am told that furosemide and the blockers increase my risk of diabetes. What medication should I consider? A: You should discuss your concerns about developing diabetes with your doctor. Depending upon your medical condition, Furosemide might still be the best choice for you. If you are overweight, now would be a good time to get serious about losing the extra pounds.

How Cozaar Reduces Blood Pressure Cozaar (losartan) is one of a new class of blood pressure medication called angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). Angiotensin II is a chemical that causes the muscles surrounding the blood vessels to contract (tighten). This in turn narrows the blood vessels. This narrowing increases the pressure within the blood vessels and can cause high blood pressure (hypertension). Cozaar works by blocking the action of angiotensin II. As a result, the blood vessels dilate (relax) and blood pressure is reduced. Other ARB medications include Diovan, Avapro, Atacand, Micardis, Atacand Plus, and Hyzaar.
