Resperate Clinically Proven to Reduce Blood Pressure
The American Heart Association (AHA) issued a groundbreaking scientific statement named Beyond Medications and Diet: Alternative Approaches to Lowering Blood Pressure.

“[RESPeRATE] can significantly lower blood pressure.” American Heart Association’s Scientific statement, 2013

In 2013 the American Heart Association (AHA) issued a groundbreaking scientific statement named Beyond Medications and Diet: Alternative Approaches to Lowering Blood Pressure.

The rationale for the project was simple – the prevalence of hypertension continues to grow (29% of adults in the US) despite availability of effective medications, numerous diets and lifestyle recommendations.

AHA expert writing group reviewed the published clinical evidence of three broad categories:

Behavioral therapies, including meditation techniques, yoga, biofeedback, and relaxation or stress-reduction programs; Noninvasive procedures or wwwices, including wwwice-guided breathing modulation (RESPeRATE) and acupuncture; Exercise-based regimens, including aerobic, resistance, and isometric exercise methods.

The report excluded orally active agents such as dietary changes, complementary therapies, herbs, and novel medications. We will cover this in the next tip.

In Noninvasive procedures or wwwices, AHA says that “The overall evidence from clinical trials and meta-analyses suggests that wwwice-guided slow breathing [RESPeRATE] can significantly lower BP. There are no known contraindications to the use of the wwwice, and no adverse effects have been noted.” The report also noted that “…most people find the wwwice [RESPeRATE] easy to use”

The report also found that Transcendental Meditation and other kind of exercises have clinical support for lowering blood pressure. We will cover them in the next tips.

So who can benefit most from these AHA recommendations?

A follow-up 2015 publication notes the following groups: Patients at low cardiovascular risk with mild stage 1 hypertension – ideal candidates for using these approaches for up to 1 year. Individuals with refractory hypertension, prehypertension, or multiple drug side effects, and those aiming to reduce medication requirements.
