This weeks question comes from Harry K in Seattle. What are the benefits of green tea? Today I would like to just look at the benefits for cardiac health being as there are so many benefits of green tea.

Cardiovascular disease, including high blood pressure, heart attack, and strokes, is the worlds leading cause of death today. 17 million people die annually from this disease.

Studies show that drinking green tea can reduce some of those risk factors for this disease. For example it has been shown that green tea can reduce total cholesterol, LDL’s, and triglycerides.  Green tea also dramatically increases the antioxidant capability of the blood, which protects the LDL cholesterol particles from oxidation, which is one part of the pathway towards heart disease

Given that green tea can boost the metabolic rate in the short term, it makes sense that it could help you loose weight. Various randomized studies have proven drinking green tea help decrease fat especially in the abdominal region.One of these studies was a randomized controlled trial in 240 men and women that went on for 12 weeks. In this study, the green tea group had significant decreases in body fat percentage, body weight, waist circumference and abdominal fat .But not all randomized study prove the benefits of weight lose.

My advise try drinking green tea to see if it is beneficial for you. Look at the studies, keep yourself informed, and enjoy researching about this amazing miracle we call the human body.
