What are essential oils?

If you have ever enjoyed the scent of a rose, you’ve experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. These naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants.

Essential oils give plants their distinctive smells, protect them and play a role in plant pollination.

In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and their beautiful fragrance, essential oils have long been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health-care practices such a lowering high blood pressure.

For over 5,000 years, many different cultures have used healing plant essential oil for a variety of health conditions. It is often used for relaxation, beauty care, home cleaning and most often used as natural medicine. Are there any essential oils for high blood pressure?

What do essential oils treat?

The use of essential oils for therapeutic, spiritual, hygienic and ritualistic purposes goes back to a number of ancient civilizations including the Chinese, Indians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans who used them in cosmetics, perfumes and drugs.

Essential oils are described by Dioscorides, along with beliefs of the time regarding their healing properties, in his “De Materia Medica”, written in the first century.

There are many potential contributing factors to high blood pressure. Please purchase from a reputable dealer. As with other alternative therapies we advise to continue with your hypertension medication if your health practitioner has prescribed you medication. Never stop taking your medication on your own, but allow the prescriber to reduce as necessary.

I have read at a number of sites (medical) that one should be very wary of using aromatherapy if you have high blood pressure and other illnesses, especially if you are taking multiple medications, especially high blood pressure medications. These essential oils enter your blood system and will interact with medicines. Please check on this.

    1. Dear Robert, There are actually specific essential oils that you should avoid if you are taking ant-hypertensive medications. Specifically people suffering from high blood pressure should avoid hyssop, rosemary, all types of sage and thyme. This were not listed in the article we recently published.

      1. Tben, actually the article does mention clary sage as being helpful and reducing pressures.

  2. I noticed you have Frankincense here, and was wondering if Frankincense INCENSE would also help blood pressure. Has there ever been any studies on that?

  3. How do these oils work if not ingested? Merely by apply to the skin? and if so, how much and how often? Where can I find the dosage information?

  4. Just apply the oil on the back of your feet, your blood pressure will go down. Been doing it ever since.
