Q: I am on high blood pressure medicine. Why is it that my bottom number (diastolic) never goes down? It ranges from 93 to 98 all the time. What makes the bottom number go up? A: Your blood pressure is not in good control based on your readings. You need to be re-evaluated by your physician. (HealthDay News) First-time heart attacks in the United States aren't as deadly now as they have been in past decades, a long-running study finds. "We know that deaths from heart disease are going down," said Dr. Merle Myerson, director of the cardiovascular disease prevention program at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, and lead author of a report in the Jan. 20 issue of Circulation. "One reason why is that heart attacks are less severe. People are not coming in with these massive heart attacks that are killing them." Read more
