New research coming out of the University Of Queensland in Brisbane Australia is showing that people who go for a walk in their local parks for at least 30 minutes per week lowered their blood pressure numbers and had a better mental outlook. According to Dr. Danielle Shanahan, “If everyone visited their local parks for half an hour each week there would be 7% fewer cases of depression and 9% fewer cases of high blood pressure.” With 1 in 3 people or 75 million people in the United States diagnosed with high blood pressure, this would mean there would be almost 7 million fewer cases of high blood pressure by walking in nature for 30 or more minutes per week.

1,500 people answered the questionnaire regarding there help and researchers where specifically looking for people who had high blood pressure or depression. The questionnaire also asked about peoples physical activities and how much time they spent walking in nature. The results where huge as seen above.

One of the researchers Richard Fuller stated, “We’ve known for a long time that visiting parks is good for our health, but we are now beginning to establish exactly how much time we need to spend in parks to gain these benefits. We have specific evidence that we need regular visits of at least half an hour to ensure we get these benefits.”

So seniors to beat your high blood pressure it is time to dust of those sports shoes, get out into those green spaces and enjoy mother nature and all the wonderful things the great outdoors has to give us.
