Dried fruits like apricots, raisins and blueberries, and all varieties of nuts, can be tossed together to make a satisfying and energizing snack that’s good-tasting and great for your overall health. Dried fruits are excellent sources of fiber, potassium, and antioxidants. Nuts, particularly almonds and cashews, add magnesium, making a handful of snack mix a good bet for helping to lower blood pressure, deliciously.

When a snack attack happens, it’s helpful to have a go-to snack option on hand that quickly satisfies. Keep in mind that due to the concentrated sugar in dried fruit, a little goes a long way, and for maximum health benefits, use only unsalted nuts.

Ingredients

    • 8 ounces dried apricots
    • 1 bag (about 12 ounces) unsalted mini pretzels
    • 4 ounces whole unsalted almonds
    • 4 ounces raw unsalted cashews
    • 4 ounces unsalted roasted peanuts
    • 1 cup yogurt covered dark raisins
    • 1 cup golden raisins
    • ½ cup dried blueberries
    • ½ cup dried sweetened cranberries or dried cherries

Preparation

Spray the blades of a pair of scissors with vegetable cooking spray, then cut the apricots into bite-size pieces; place apricot pieces in a large mixing bowl. Add the pretzels, almonds, cashews, peanuts, golden and yogurt-covered raisins, blueberries, and cranberries. Gently toss ingredients to mix. Place mix in an airtight container to store.

Note: For variety, substitute whole-wheat cereal squares for the unsalted pretzels.
