Almonds pack a stress-busting and blood pressure lowering punch. They are bursting with vitamin E, an antioxidant that boosts the immune system and contain B vitamins which help buoy the body up during stressful times.
Almonds also contain magnesium and potassium, known to relax arteries and improve flow of blood, oxygen and nutrients around the body. Potassium is an important electrolyte involved in nerve transmission, and the contraction of the heart – a mineral that’s essential for maintaining normal blood pressure and cardiovascular function.
Almonds make a tasty addition to both sweet and savory dishes, and while they’re available all year almonds are freshest in the summer, the height of their season. You can enjoy almonds as they come, but they also good roasted, added to curries, included in breakfast shakes or served in a chicken salad.
