Q:

I am a hypertensive patient taking amlodipine-5mg tablet once after dinner. My blood pressure is under control with change in lifestyle, less salt intake ,walking and weight reduction.

Does taking amlodipine have an affect on urination? I have to go to restroom after 5 hrs of sleep. Please reply. Thanks

A:

Your blood pressure medicine can make you retain fluid. Or the veins in your legs may not work as well as they used to. This can cause fluid retention. When you lay down it is easier for your body to get rid of fluid. It is possible this is why you have to go to the bathroom after several hours of sleep. Check your ankles before you go to bed and night and then again in the morning. If your ankles look smaller in the morning, you are retaining fluid that gets eliminated during sleep.
