If you want to enrich your diet with a healthy fruit, then pomegranate is perfect, but do not depend on it to lower your blood pressure. But, take caution, because pomegranate juice is known to counteract or create dangerous side effects when it interacts with certain types of medicines. So, if you are taking high blood pressure medication, consult with your doctor about introducing pomegranate into your diet.
Since pomegranate juice has not been proven to lower high blood pressure, no official daily intake recommendation has been set. Enjoy, but remember it does have a lot of sugar and can increase your blood sugar levels if you over do it.
Other Food Solutions:
There are other foods and eating plans that have demonstrated positive effects on blood pressure levels for example: walnuts, almonds, bananas, garlic, salmon, oatmeal, tea, asparagus and blueberries. In general, foods rich in potassium, magnesium, omega-3, calcium, fiber and protein will be beneficial. The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Eating Plan is an excellent way to help reduce blood pressure and it is based on research. Studies have shown that DASH and the foods it promotes can help to lower blood pressure. While it is rich in all the necessary nutrients it is also low in sodium, sugar, fats and processed foods.
